We're now in the process of organising our first public performances so will keep you updated with any developments.
Long time no speak, apologies for the dead noise since September, the past few months have been busy with a lot of ground work and background activity for a new group but not much to talk about. So it's with huge excitement and after having travelled up and down the country for rehearsals, meetings and general muzo stuff to get this group together that it's ready for it's public debut!
We're called Boomerang Parlour and are now in the process of organising our first public performances (in a venue near you) now that we've received the masters for our demo recordings. Thank you very much to Mill Production Studios for recording, mixing and mastering the tracks, Soundcloud links will be live as soon as possible!
We're all working hard to build this group and our aim is to record an EP this coming Autumn/Winter for public release in the new year. Look forward to hearing what you think of it!
Well, I've been in hermit mode for the past couple of months or so...
I have been writing for a new group. We met up at the old stomping ground of RNCM to play through the material for the first time.
It was glorious and I enjoyed every minute of it.
We are working towards recording an EP (or LP, entirely dependent on the number of trips down the pub) to be ready to subject to innocents across the globe (WORLD DOMINATION!!!) from late February onwards.
It's very exciting to be creating something new with such fantastic musicians!
I have just returned from 10 incredible days in Florida. Performing with Mark, travelling around Naples and Miami and meeting an assortment of great people.
Getting my precious Lowden through check-in, security and customs was interesting but Mark was a smooth talker so it wasn't too much of a problem. On arriving at Miami International Airport, the first two things I noticed were; the heat and...the V8's! Nothing but big, brash and burbling American cars everywhere. I was very happy. Anyway, enough about cars...
When we arrived we were greeted with fantastic food and our own rooms and bathrooms! With a voice as powerful as Marks, I'd hate to imagine what his snoring is like...
The next morning, Mark was interviewed on Fox 4 News and sang acapella!
Our performance on Valentines Day went down a treat, we really enjoyed it, and we've been invited back next year!
Over the course of the trip we were introduced to karaoke in Naples, I tried and bought my first cigars, saw lots of lovely bikini clad ladies on Naples Beach, attended a classic car show, had my first "deep south" breakfast, big american donuts, was taken for my first ever ride on a motorbike (and it was a great big Harley!), was allowed to drive a Mercedes SL500, saw my first alligator, tried Cuban seafood and got to see more lovely bikini clad ladies on Miami Beach! A lot of new and exciting experiences in a great place filled with lots of great people.
Mark and I were able to do all of these things because of our wonderful hosts, Scott and Renee Relf. They allowed us to stay in their beautiful home, organised the concert, radio, TV and all of our activities for us. As well as all of this, they transported us from place to place and answered all of our questions with tireless enthusiasm and generosity. A huge thank you to Scott and Renee for such an incredible trip!
Thank you to Soderquist Photography for their photos and thank you to everyone else for their making us feel so welcome!
Last week I attended the Mike Walker Guitar Masterclass near Ambleside. I had very little idea of what to expect, except that it would be a very intense and educating experience. This was true. We all agreed towards the mid-way point of our time in Ambleside that Mike is a genius, not just a guitar genius, but a musical one.
He demonstrated his knowledge and understanding by explaining to all of us in a clear, simple and humorous manner how to approach and develop new and advanced concepts in our playing.
This was rounded off with the fact that despite having the ability, knowledge and nous to perform and work with musical heavyweights such as George Russell, Steve Swallow, Gwilym Simcock, Bill Frisell, John Scofield and many more, he engaged with us as if we were all equal. In a nutshell it was f***ing great!
I can't wait for the next one and to see were my new found musical perspective will take me. Have a look at Mike's website and The Impossible Gentlemen, they're on tour now!
The album has been launched! It was a fantastic evening with not only Mark debuting his new album, but also Rob Brydon compering, Sophie Evans of Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Dorothy performing and Ellen Williams.
I had a great time performing with Mark and can't wait for the next performance!
The showreel is here! We're all delighted with it and would like to thank Nick Carter for doing the audio and Resolution Visuals for doing the video, they've done an incredible job. Hope you enjoy it!
